Group Assignment -

Seed Team Selection

  • LA Reds FC (Host)
  • Silicon Valley Tigers (Runner-up, Grand 2007)

Group Assignment And Game Order Scheme

  1. Sort the seed teams alphabetically
    1. LA Reds FC (Host)
    2. Silicon Valley Tigers (Runner-up, Grand 2007)

  2. Sort the rest of the 6 teams alphabetically
    1. America Catamount
    2. Irvine Cheetahs
    3. LA Dragons
    4. LA Kickers
    5. San Diego Killer Whales
    6. USC Trojans

  3. Team group assignment
    1. Use the 1st number of California MegaMillion Lotto from Tuesday, Oct 21, 2008 , to determine the date from which we take the Daily 3 Evening numbers. For example, if the 1st number is 10, we will start taking the Daily 3 numbers from 10 days before the day we do the drawing, i.e. Oct 21, 2008, and continue taking numbers from the previous days until all drawings are done. Past results can be obtained from http://www.calottery.com/Games/dailythree/winningnumbers/dailythreeeve.htm.
    2. The assignment scheme works as follows. For every team, the Daily 3 number mod 2 determines its group (Group A = 0; Group B =1). For an example, if the daily 3 number mod 2 is 0 for LA Reds FC is 0, the team will be in Group A, otherwise Group B.
    3. The draw stops when one group is filled with 4 teams and rest of the un-assigned teams will be automatically in the other group.

  4. Group game order. The order of the group games will be randomly (daily 3 mod by 6) selected from the following 6 possibilities.
    1. Round 1: 1-2 & 3-4; Round 2: 1-3 & 2-4; Round 3: 1-4 & 2-3.
    2. Round 1: 1-2 & 3-4; Round 2: 1-4 & 2-3; Round 3: 1-3 & 2-4.
    3. Round 1: 1-3 & 2-4; Round 2: 1-4 & 2-3; Round 3: 1-2 & 3-4.
    4. Round 1: 1-3 & 2-4; Round 2: 1-2 & 3-4; Round 3: 1-4 & 2-3.
    5. Round 1: 1-4 & 2-3; Round 2: 1-2 & 3-4; Round 3: 1-3 & 2-4.
    6. Round 1: 1-4 & 2-3; Round 2: 1-3 & 2-4; Round 3: 1-2 & 3-4.

  5. [Optional] Group precedence draw
    1. Only necessary if SDKW and SV Tigers are drawn to different groups
    2. Daily 3 mod by 2, Group A plays first round = 0; Group B plays first = 1.

  6. Drawing order
    1. Seed team group assignment
    2. Non-seed team group assignment
    3. Group game order determination
    4. Group precedence draw (optional)
